An archetypal  country house landscape garden scene of low winter light animated by the subtle pink and yellow tints of Kelly’s sky-scape. Kelly ‘s style was a peculiarly original blend of Surrealism and Romanticism, he painted country houses and worked as a graphic designer, stage designer, interior designer and illustrator  His best known commission was for four mural panels painted in the Garden Hall at Castle Howard in 1982 and featuring in the famous Anglia Television production of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited, with Jeremy Irons as the novice country house artist Charles Rider. This painting is typical of his mature and best style. Unglazed, in a black reeded frame.
